About Us
Dr. Amy Michaelis, Ed.D., BCBA-D, President/Co-Founder
Amy Michaelis is a distinguished professional in education and behavior analysis, holding certifications as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) and a Certified K–12 Special Education Teacher in Florida. She earned her doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction with a specialization in Administration and Leadership. Her doctoral dissertation, Using Applied Behavior Analysis to Improve Reading Abilities in Children with Dyslexia, reflects her dedication to advancing effective, evidence-based educational practices.
Amy is an accomplished academic who has presented at local conferences on the use of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) in public schools and its application for students with dyslexia. As an adjunct professor at the University of West Florida, she teaches BACB-approved coursework to aspiring behavior analysts, helping to shape the next generation of professionals in the field.
With more than twenty years of experience, Amy has excelled in developing individualized programs for students with disabilities, teaching in PK–5th grade classrooms, and implementing ABA services across various educational and clinical settings. Her passion for advocating for children with disabilities led to the founding of Upward Trend Academy—a true realization of her vision to bridge the gap between research and practice.
In addition to leading Upward Trend Academy, Amy contributes her expertise to several local and statewide organizations. Amy serves on the School Board of Samsula Academy, volunteers for the Upward Trend Foundation, and is deeply involved in local community initiatives. She is an Ambassador for the Southeast Volusia Chamber of Commerce and serves on the Florida Grade-Level Reading Campaign Workgroup through the Early Learning Coalition. Additionally, she chairs the Volusia County Schools ESE Parent Advisory Committee. In recognition of her leadership and impact, she was honored with a 2023 40 Under 40 Award.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Amy is a lifelong resident of the New Smyrna Beach area. She’s a proud mom of three and a dog mom to her sweet cavapoo, Ruby. She enjoys spending time with her family and relaxing by the pool whenever she gets the chance.
Lindsay Strausbaugh, M.Ed., BCBA, Vice President/Co-Founder
Lindsay Strausbaugh is a highly accomplished Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) and Certified Special Education Teacher based in New Smyrna Beach, Florida. She also holds a PK–3 certification, reflecting her strong commitment to early childhood education. A proud graduate of New Smyrna Beach High School, Lindsay has deep roots in the community she continues to serve and support.
With more than fourteen years of experience, Lindsay has made a significant impact in education, teaching and supporting students with varying exceptionalities in both general education and ESE classrooms within the public school system. Her expertise extends to early childhood education and Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), where she has provided services in both home and center-based settings.
Lindsay’s passion for education extends beyond the classroom. She is dedicated to sharing the science of behavior with local caregivers, educators, families, and first responders—empowering others to create meaningful change. As co-owner of Upward Trend Academy, Lindsay plays a pivotal role in designing and implementing curriculum, training teachers in effective instructional and classroom management strategies, and ensuring each student receives individualized, evidence-based support.
In addition to her role at Upward Trend Academy, Lindsay serves on the Board of Directors and Ambassador Committee for the Southeast Volusia Chamber of Commerce, volunteers with the Upward Trend Foundation, and is an active member of the Chisholm Elementary PTA. Her leadership and dedication to community engagement earned her recognition as a 2023 40 Under 40 award recipient.
Outside of her professional life, Lindsay enjoys spending time with her two young children, her fiancé, and their dachshund, Bentley.
Qualifications of Other Instructional Personnel
Pursuant to 1002.421(1)(j), Florida statues requires all of our teachers and staff to hold a Bachelor's degree or have specialized training and expertise (Registered Behavior Technician) before working with our students. Specific information regarding teacher's and staff's training and education can be provided at any time on request.
